In case you are wondering, Heet is nothing but methanol. People add it to their gas tanks to get water out of the tank in the winter.

    Thanks for posting my video!

Denatured alcohol (methyl spirits) is actually a much more efficient fuel for this type of stove, but is a bit harder to find.

Some people like to use everclear as fuel, since it is consumable and can be used as a disinfectant in the wilderness. It also burns very clean.

In a pinch, you can also use 91% rubbing alcohol. It’s not very efficient and burns a little dirty, but it does work.

There are far better alcohol stove designs out there, like the Penny Stove for instance. The one in my video is about the easiest to make that still gives decent efficiency, however. I actually did boil that pot of water at the end of the video with only about 3 tablespoons of Heet. It took about the same amount of time as my electric stove.

Glad everyone is enjoying it so much. It’s been posted all over the place, much to my surprise.

I’ve created an instructable at instructables dot com with more construction details. Search for miniature stove.

  4. There must be other things that can be done with the lightweight, cheap, strong little puck you made from the bottom of two cans.
