How HDTV “in home calibration” doesn’t work

Here’s another “big Box” electronics scam:

Circuit City’s In-Home TV Calibration Is A Total Scam

What’s interesting is that this could actually be a useful service if it had an educational component. If the installer sat down with the customer and explained all the adjustments possible on a typical HDTV, and how you might apply them in different situations, and then helped the customer get a good setting for their particular situation, that would be valuable. But that would require the installer to know all the settings for the given TV, and that the installer be a good teacher, and that the installer spend half an hour teaching and answering questions.

This article shouldn’t deter readers from seeking out the proper calibration for their TV’s though. There are several good DVD products on the market such as this one to help out.
