How hyperbaric oxygen works

If you have read How SCUBA works you are familiar with the problem called “the bends”. One way to treat the problem is to put patients in a hyperbaric chamber that lets the doctor raise the air pressure to high levels. The pressure simulates the pressure of diving and lets the bubbles get reabsorbed.
If you load such a chamber with a high concetration of oxygen, you get a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Doctors are discovering that hyperbaric oxygen can treat a number of conditions, as described here:
